Mayo “SEN” Naito is a Japanese comic creator who is also a massive fan of Captain Marvel/Shazam. She posts a lot of fan art featuring Captain Marvel and the Marvel family — and is really rather good at it.
It seems that at Warner Bros. offices she met Geoff Johns, as part of her involvement with DC Zoom — she appears to be drawing the Superman Smashes the Klan book written by Gene Luen Yang, though her involvement has not been announced.
And she drew Captain Marvel on his wall. It may have made an impression on the then-CCO of DC Comics and now writing the upcoming Shazam comic starting in November drawn by Dale Eaglesham.
But Dale won’t be the only artist working on the book. Geoff seems to have liked SEN’s work sufficiently that she has been hired to draw a back-up strip in the comic, starting with #1 in November.
Here’s the solicitation.
