Warby Parker’s app is cleverly using the iPhone X’s face mapping to recommend glasses

The iPhone X has only been out for a few days, but we’re already seeing people take advantage of the face mapping technology on the phone in numerous ways. Some, like Animoji karaoke are more entertaining than useful, but others — like Warby Parker’s new app — are a little more useful (as spotted by Joanna Stern on Twitter.)

The glasses company is cleverly using the iPhone’s camera to take maps of people’s faces, and use that data to recommend styles of glasses that will best fit your face. It’s a step beyond the digital try on system the company has previously offered, where it would try to place a virtual pair of glasses on a picture to let you see how it looks.

Joe Quesada Thanks Brian Michael Bendis For The Hard Work, Creativity, And Friendship

It was Joe Quesada who brought the crime comics writer/artist Brian Michael Bendis to the attention of Bill Jemas. Between them — and with help from a certain Mark Bagley — the Ultimate Universe was born in 2000 with Ultimate Spider-Man. It led to a sea change at the publisher, which would see Joe Quesada made Marvel EIC, and the new mood reflected in the movies that followed.

Today it was announced that Bendis would be DC Comics’ new exclusive writer. And because you can’t be an exclusive writer for Marvel and DC Comics, something had to give.

And so Chief Creative Officer of Marvel Comics, Joe Quesada, said goodbye to Brian.

Marvel Comics’ Biggest Name Just Left For DC

https://static.gamespot.com/uploads/original/1562/15626911/3313141-bendis-nailbiter.png

In one of the most shocking moments in recent comic book history, writer Brian Michael Bendis–a staple at Marvel Comics for years–is headed to DC Comics, signing an exclusive deal with the publisher. The mind behind Ultimate Spider-Man, House of H, Secret Invasion, Powers, and Spider-Men–some of the best comics at Marvel over the past decade, will be working with a whole new batch of characters in the coming years.

DC announced the news (via Twitter): “We are beyond thrilled to welcome Brian Michael Bendis exclusively to the DC family with a multiyear, multi-faceted deal. He’s one of the premier writers in the industry having created so many unforgettable stories wherever he’s been, and we can’t wait to see what he has planned for the DC Universe.”

Bendis retweeted the statement, adding “This is real. I love you all. Change is good. Change is healthy. I am bursting with ideas and inspirations. Details to come!”

This won’t be the first time Bendis has written at DC. Back in 2000, he wrote a story for Batman Chronicles #21 called “Citizen Wayne,” where Clark Kent tries to learn Bruce Wayne’s darkest secrets. However, Bendis has never had a full-time gig at DC until now, so the doors are wide open for him to take on old characters and create some new ones.

While non-comic book readers may not be familiar with him, they will know some of the characters he’s created. Bendis is credited with creating Jessica Jones, who has her own Netflix series; Quake, who is one of the main characters on Agents of SHIELD; Maria Hill, who has appeared in numerous Marvel movies; and Ganke; who Spider-Man Homecoming‘s Ned Leeds is based on, whether or not Sony and Marvel would like to admit it.

As of now, there is no information as to what Bendis will be working on at DC first, and the writer still has comics finishing up at Marvel, like the mini-series Spider-Men II.

Legends Of Tomorrow Season 3: Rip Hunter Is Having Second Thoughts

At the end of last season’s DC’s Legend of Tomorrow, Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) leaves the Legends to start the Time Bureau. As the new season started, we see Rip and his new team five years in, working efficiently to deal with the anachronisms that the Legends caused (As Rory keeps pointing out, Sara’s idea). But there is more than just anachronisms looming this season and Rip finally comes clean in a clip from tonight’s new episode, ‘Return of the Mack.

Legends of Tomorrow

The Legends travel to 1897 on the trail of a time-traveling vampire and come across their old captain Rip Hunter. In the clip below, Rip explains to the team that the Time Bureau is great for dealing with the anachronisms, but they lack the imagination to comprehend the threat that is Mallus. He needs the Legends help to stop this evil force as it is gathering allies through out time.

As he explains the situation, Nate (Nick Zano) sums it up that Rip went off with his hot new girlfriend, but found out she’s not all that great and is coming back to his ex (them). Mick (Dominic Purcell) picks up on the metaphor and claims that he is no one’s side piece, and Sara (Caity Lotz) says condescendingly that they would love to take him back, but they can’t trust him. Rip offers to call off his hot new girlfriends pursuit of them… and a deal is made.

This is one of the reasons I love this show. Nate making a silly metaphor like that is typical for a lot of series, but to have everyone keep it going… that’s a bit more Legends style.

Legends of Tomorrow airs tonight at 9 p.m. ET on the CW.

The FBI says it can’t access the Texas church shooter’s encrypted phone

A Federal Bureau of Investigation official said today that the agency has been unable to access an encrypted phone used by the gunman who killed 26 people at a rural Texas church on Sunday.

At a press conference, Christopher Combs, the FBI special agent in charge of the investigation, said the phone had been transported back to the FBI in Quantico, Virginia for examination. Investigators have identified Devin Patrick Kelley as the gunman in the shooting, which unfolded in the town of Sutherland Springs.

“Unfortunately, at this point in time, we are unable to get into that phone,” Combs said.

The comments echo other high-profile incidents where the FBI said it…

Fans Unhappy As Some Amazon Xbox One X Pre-Orders Miss Launch Day

Xbox One X

Some frustrated Amazon customers are complaining that their Xbox One X pre-orders aren’t scheduled to arrive today, which is the launch day for the spanking new console.

Fans rushed to pre-order the “world’s most powerful console” months ago so they’d be able to scale 4K pyramids in Assassin’s Creed Origins moments after getting home from work today. But days before the $500 console’s release, and even today, several have said over Twitter and gaming forums that their consoles’ shipment dates don’t match with its release date—basically the whole point of pre-ordering.

This morning, Eurogamer reported that, in the U.K., “stock issues,” in Amazon’s words, have caused shipment delays for lots of local customers. It looks like the issues go beyond the U.K. and have affected U.S. customers as well.

The delays don’t seem to be extreme—one, two or three days—but consumers are upset nonetheless. Also, lots of customers on various forums say that they weren’t guaranteed a release-date delivery, although for online pre-orders, it is generally assumed that that’s when packages will arrive. “Never again to pre-order from @Amazon. Paid for release day delivery but yet my #XboxOneX will not be here until tomorrow,” read one tweet from a customer who said they are also in the U.S. “And another who said they’re based in Oklahoma: “Not getting mine till Thursday…Amazon has really been dropping the ball lately with these pre-orders.” “Mine hasn’t even shipped yet,” reads a tweet by one who said they hail from Puerto Rico.

In the U.K., customers are echoing these sentiments. “Amazon UK shafted me and now my day one pre-order Scorpio is MIA with no idea when it will ge here,” read one customer’s tweet. A second: “I’d love to play your new console @xbox, but @amazon are telling me my pre-order from August is out of stock and won’t get it. Please… stop your business with them.” Dozens more wage similar complaints, with a few alleging that Amazon waited until midday to explain that their shipment was delayed.

Reached for comment, Amazon told Kotaku that they have inventory to fulfill all Xbox One X pre-orders but did not specify whether they could fulfill them on the day of release, adding that “customer delivery date may vary based on their location and chosen shipping method.”

Amazon’s apparent issues shipping pre-ordered Xbox One X consoles on time come on the heels of the SNES Classic shipping fiasco of just a few months ago. In October, some SNES Classic editions still hadn’t shipped, despite pre-orders placed mid-August for the September-released console.
