YouTube Unbans a Streamer for Red Dead Redemption 2 Feminist Kill

It kinda goes without saying that while Rockstar Games made a fine western with Red Dead Redemption 2, it’s still basically GTA in the old west. Meaning whatever you feel like doing, no matter how violent or crazy, you can do it if you truly wish, even if what you’re doing would be reprehensible by human standards. Earlier this week, a YouTuber named Shirrako found out what it’s like to be on the wrong end of history, so to speak, when the footage below (which has been clipped together) shows him beating up an NPC suffragette, then hog-tying her, dragging her through the streets, feeding her to a crocodile, and then blowing her up with dynamite.

The act got him banned from the platform, only for him to be unbanned a short time later, explaining to Motherboard that the act was not political, and that he only wanted to shop the gallery in peace. While that story may work for them, it sounds like garbage to most gamers on social media. If you truly just want to shut an NPC up, you can simply shoot them where they stand and move along with the consequences. The dragging, feeding, and explosions not only took longer, but took him away from shopping and made his Wanted rating so high that he’d have to leave town for a good long while. Sorry, kid. We don’t buy it.

The Walking Dead Season 9, Episode 6 ‘Who Are You Now?’: Gabriel Sees Good in Magna’s Group (PREVIEW)

Six years later…

The Hilltop/Alexandria community continues to thrive, evolving into the society that Rick (Andrew Lincoln), Daryl (Norman Reedus), Maggie (Lauren Cohan), Michonne (Danai Gurira), and Carol (Melissa McBride) fought so hard – and sacrificed so much – to achieve. Now with the next generation of Grimes on the scene (Cailey Fleming), the community begins the process of reaching further out to survivors – an initiative that a hardened Michonne is dead set against out of concern for the community’s long-term safety and security.

In the following preview for the next episode of AMC‘s The Walking Dead ‘Who Are You Now?,’ Rosita (Christian Serratos) and Father Gabriel (Seth Gilliam) discuss the chances of Michonne changing her mind and allowing a new group of survivors into the community (Nadia Hilker‘s Magna, Angel Theory‘s Kelly, Lauren Ridloff‘s Connie, Eleanor Matsura‘s Yumiko, and Dan Fogler‘s Luke). Gabriel’s also looking to extend the community’s search for more survivors further out – a move that will bring them face-to-face to their greatest threat yet:

The Walking Dead Season 9, Episode 6 ‘Who Are You Now?’: The Survivors encounter unfamiliar faces outside the safety of their community’s walls and must decide whether or not this new group can be trusted.

Here’s a look back at Bleeding Cool‘s review of Andrew Lincoln‘s last episode of The Walking Dead, ‘What Comes After’:

Last season brought the culmination of “All Out War,” which pitted Rick Grimes and his group of survivors against the Saviors and their cunning leader, Negan. With Negan’s life in his hands, Rick had a character-defining choice in front of him. By making the unilateral decision to spare Negan, Rick upheld the values his late son, Carl, championed in order to build for the future, but created conflict within his group.

Now, we see our survivors a year and a half after the end of the war, rebuilding civilization under Rick’s steadfast leadership. It is a time of relative peace among the communities as they work together, looking to the past to forge the future, but the world they knew is rapidly changing as man-made structures continue to degrade, and nature takes over, changing the landscape and creating new challenges for our survivors.

As time passes, the communities confront unexpected obstacles, danger, and of course, walkers, but nothing quite prepares them for the formidable force they are about to encounter, which threatens the very idea of civilization that our survivors have worked so hard to build.

Based on the comic book series written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics, “The Walking Dead” reigns the number one drama on television among adults 18-49 for the last six seasons. The series is executive produced by chief content officer Scott M. Gimple, showrunner Angela Kang, Robert Kirkman, Gale Anne Hurd, David Alpert, Greg Nicotero, Tom Luse, and Denise Huth.

Streamlabs Launches an App Store for Twitch Streamers

This week, Streamlabs launched a brand new app store, specifically designed to work with Twitch streamers to add more content to their feed. Most every app in the store comes with a monthly subscription fee and ranges from having games to choosing music to hosting and highlighting other feeds. Below is the list of apps the company has started with which will be growing over the next few months. A lot of what’s here looks pretty cool, but unless you’re a streamer making bank every month, a regular fee may be too much for newer streamers. We’ll see how that all pans out.

  • Broadcast premium music with ease and protect your business with zero DMCA risk (developed by Monstercat)

  • Engage with your channel by letting your chat control lights in your room with HueLightBot (developed by Aetaric)

  • Dynamic, automated, fully-customizable 3D motion graphics for alerts and overlays (developed by OvrStream)

  • Understand your audience with Live Dashboard containing 90 different widgets (developed by LayerOne)

  • Upgraded media share that sends media files from your audience to the stream (developed by Social to Stream)

  • Host marathon streams with Subathon Timer (developed by LayerOne)

  • Customize beautiful, streamer approved overlays without design software (developed by Visuals by Impulse)

  • Engage with your community with polls, profile image rain, and quizzes during downtime (developed by SuperMashApp)

  • Host an interactive game show on your channel (developed by SuperMashApp)

  • Grow your audience by sim-casting to Twitch/YT/Mixer with few clicks (developed by Mobcrush)

  • On-stream stats overlays for League of Legends and Fortnite (developed by Tomatolicious)

  • Plug your YouTube channel on your stream! Show a rotating feed of your recent video upload thumbnails right on your overlay (developed by Tomatolicious)

  • Up your Fortnite game with fortnite stats overlay builder and chatbot (developed by Rare Drop)

  • Stay on top of your chat with cross platform chat overlay (developed by Rare Drop)

  • Empowering streamers by providing fully customizable, innovative, animated overlays and widgets (developed by Nerd or Die)

Michael Chabon on What Makes ‘Star Trek’ Star Trek

Remember how excited we were to report on the return of Star Trek favorite Captain Jean Luc Picard back in August? That joy hasn’t really gone away yet; Sir Patrick Stewart at the helm of a Starfleet vessel is the stuff of Federation dreams.

Author Michael Chabon, photo from Finn Caspian.com

Pulitzer Prize-winning author Michael Chabon will be helming the Picard series for CBS ALL ACCESS, and he recently spoke with Deadline about what makes Star Trek Star Trek to him:

DEADLINE: What makes a Star Trek story a Star Trek story in your mind?

CHABON: “On a lot of levels the way I would answer that question would be while I was writing and I think almost all of them would be unconscious. I’ve been a Star Trek fan since I was about 10-years-old and I’ve watched every version of the show since the first-run — after the original series, which I watched first in reruns — and I’ve seen all the movies and, look, I’m a huge fan. I’ve absorbed a lot of the Star Trekethos so as soon as I sat down and started trying to write for Star Trek, a lot of those questions — what are the parameters, what are the givens, what are the underlying assumptions — I think a lot of that is stuff I’m doing almost subconsciously so I don’t have to stop and think about it. I think what appealed to me in this germ of an idea [with Calypso] is when I perceived of this artificial intelligence being a character in the story which grows out of the traditions.

In a way there are kinda two competing strands in history of Star Trek in terms of looking at computers and artificial intelligences — although that’s not what they would have been calling them in the original series — and one that was especially prevelant in the original series was this idea of computers being dangerous. There’s one episode where there’s this computer called Nomad, that believes it’s mission is to sterilize the human race, expunge it from creation because it’s imperfect. So you’ve got sort of like doomsday computers and mad computers and that’s a common trope in the late sixties and early seventies where this super mad computer was going crazy, taking over the world and killing all the humans. You see that over and over coming through Terminator and all kinds of cautionary tales right up to the present moment.

Then there’s this other strand that really emerges and it’s best and fullest form is on Star Trek: The Next Generation with the character Data who is more than just an A.I. He is an artificial human. Which is another way of looking at it and with Data it gets at one of the perennial Star Trek questions which is: What does it mean to be a human being? And whether you’re looking at that from Mr. Spock the question was framed as: How much of human nature is based in emotion and how much is based in intelligence or logic? And then you have Data really pushing that question, it comes up again with [the Star Trek Voyager character called] Seven of Nine and the Borg. So it’s something that Star Trek has always been fascinated by and it’s that sub-genre that this new story is coming from with the story of this castaway and the Artificial Intelligence that saves him. What is human and how does he come to view her.”

While we don’t yet have a release date for the Picard series (or a title, for that matter) we do know that Star Trek: Discovery will be returning for their second season on January 17th 2019.

Marvel Offers 11 Retailer-Exclusive Covers In January 2019 – But Will Anyone Bother?

Marvel Comics are offering a still-whopping eleven exclusive covers to retailers in January 2019, following on from twelve in December.

Every month, Marvel offers retailers the chance to commission exclusive covers for certain titles — as long as they order thousands of copies. It’s an effective, if expensive way for both parties to a) get some promotion and create collectables for the market, and b) up their orders. Begun by Dreamwave back in the day, it was popularised by IDW and now Marvel Comics does it more than anyone else with anywhere between usually five and 10 titles a month. It’s just they now seem to be upping that a little.

But more often than not, of late, many don’t get taken up by the retailers. From October’s offerings of twelve, I can find only one retailer getting variants for Spider-Geddon #1, but none for any of the eleven others. KRS Comics with this Philip Tan homage.

Is this really a more effective way to do business than DC Comics’ one variant every month or two?

Anyway, here are the twelve for January 2019… Someone must do Conan, right? Must do…

  • GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY #1 (Order by 11/30)
  • CHAMPIONS #1 (Order by 11/16)
  • CONAN THE BARBARIAN #1 (Order by 11/16)
  • MAN WITHOUT FEAR #1 (Order by 11/16)
  • CAPTAIN MARVEL #1 (Order by 11/23)
  • FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD SPIDER-MAN #1 (Order by 11/23)
  • WEB OF VENOM: VENOM UNLEASHED #1 (Order by 11/23)
  • BLACK WIDOW #1 (Order by 11/30)
  • INVADERS #1 (Order by 11/30)
  • MARVEL COMICS PRESENTS #1 (Order by 11/30)
  • AGE OF X-MAN ALPHA #1 (Order by 12/21)

Here’s Who Sean Bean Thinks Will Win the ‘Game of Thrones’

While he hasn’t been around since the first season of HBO’s hit series Game of ThronesSean Bean has some thoughts about who he thinks will sit the Iron Throne.

In a recent interview with Mashable, Bean answered a lot of questions about the new installment of Hitman, but also one about who he thinks will survive and reign.

If you guessed Arya Stark (Maisie Williams), then you’re correct:

Who’s left? Jon Snow is left, isn’t he? But Arya would have to be it. Yeah Arya will last — maybe she’ll be on the throne.

We have to agree, really. Everyones’ favorite Murder Child has had one hell of a journey from Winterfell to the House of Black and White, and back again to her ancestral home. She’s got the ruthlessness that a Westeros ruler needs to have, but, is there anything left of a gentle heart in her?

That remains to be seen; mercy isn’t really in her makeup now following the takedown of Walder Frey and Littlefinger.

Chances are, she WON’T be the victor in this round of the game of thrones, but we’re hoping she’ll at least be there at the conclusion.

Game of Thrones is set to return for it’s 8th and final season sometime in the first half of 2019.

BossLogic Reimagines Gal Gadot as Kitana from Mortal Kombat

We really love pretty much ALL of BossLogic‘s art pieces. He’s done Marvel, DC, video games, Dragon Ball Z; you name it, BossLogic has reimagined it.

Today’s piece just happens to portray Wonder Woman star Gal Gadot as Princess Kitana from Mortal Kombat, and we have to say, we kind of want this remake now.

https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js

There have been rumors that we’re getting a reboot film-wise of Mortal Kombat, but so far nothing has progressed past rumblings.

Gadot can next be seen/heard in Disney’s Wreck It Ralph 2: Ralph Breaks The Internet.

It’s Fantastic Four-a-Palooza in Next Week’s Fantastic Four #3

At the end of last month’s Fantastic Four #2, Reed Richards, facing off against the powerful Griever and hoping to prevent her from destroying Franklin Richards’ multiverse, tricked the Griever into allowing him to summon the rest of the Fantastic Four to his aid. What he didn’t tell her was that he planned to summon everyone who’s ever been a member of the team, which is quite a lot of Marvel heroes. It’s a gathering Johnny Storm dubs… Fantastic Four-a-Palooza.

Way to stay current with your references, Johnny. Wouldn’t Fantastic Fourchella have been more appropriate?

But will even this veritable buttload of superheroes be enough to prevent multiversal destruction? Well, it’s going to have to be. Everyone’s got a wedding to get back to Earth for, after all! And mustn’t this all be very confusing for Wolverine, who isn’t “back” yet and still has no memories of his past, at least according to the Return of Wolverine series? Oh, Marvel continuity!

All of that, plus the most highly-anticipated group hug in comics!

Fantastic Four #3 hits stores next Wednesday.

Robert the Bruce Conquers Historical Genre in Netflix’s Outlaw King [Review]

That there has always been a huge gap between what happened in history and what appears on screen in film and television is hardly a revelation; when Braveheart came out in 1995, with Scots wearing kilts and painting themselves blue, history buffs turned equally blue in fits of apoplexy. Television series like Reign had so little to do with history other than characters having names, it’s bewildering why they ever bothered. From the first nearly ten-minute long single-cut scene in Netflix’s Outlaw King, it’s quickly established that the production team definitely did their homework and delivered a fast-paced and enjoyable cliff notes mashup following the rise of Robert the Bruce from a beaten rebel to King of Scots.

It’s not a perfect translation of the history to the screen, let’s get that out of the way right out. The various actor’s accents can at best be only charitably described as uneven. Star Trek’s Chris Pine isn’t the first actor who comes to mind when one thinks of casting for an early 14th century war epic. However, accent aside, he does a solid turn as the would-be King (and light-years more suited to the role than Mel Gibson’s William Wallace). The film opens with the capitulation of the Scottish nobles to King Edward (for those less historically inclined, think after the last battle in Braveheart but before Wallace has been captured). It’s a lush and lived-in scene, going from Robert and others swearing fealty to the English King to a muddy fortification, back to the pavilion and out the other side to a massive trebuchet firing on Sterling Castle.

With only a few hours of time, there’s a great deal of time compression going on. From their returning to their castles to the trials which cause the Scots to abandon their vows and take up the sword once again against Edward the film doesn’t really give much sense of time – feeling like perhaps 2 or 3 years go by. In reality between the beginning and the end of the film just over ten years had passed.

But with the shorthand there’s still a lot to be gleaned out of the story. It would have been nice to be a limited series format rather than a film, but if two hours is what we get, then this is about as well as we can hope to get out of this kind of film. Compared to either Elizabeth movie, The Lion in Winter, and any flavor of the Joan of Arc story, this one stands at least alongside the best of them if not better for its sticking within reason to the historical narrative. Is it a great film, not in the strict sense as it’s more of a really good war and action drama than something iconic like the original Lion in Winter.

The film doesn’t shrink back from the graphic violence of the time, so be aware that it does include an on-screen hanging and disemboweling.

DC and Image Squeeze the Difference But Marvel Maintains October 2018 Marketshare Lead

In August, Marvel Comics had a 40.87% dollar share and a 43.12% unit share of the North American direct market. In September, the dollars were down with a 39.86% dollar share and a 43.24% unit share

And in October? A massive drop by five and a half points to a 34.22% dollar share and a 37.89% unit share. That’s huge. But not huge enough to stop them having the lead.

In August, DC Comics had a 27.51% dollar share and a 31.02% unit share of the North American direct market. In September, that built to 29.06% dollar share and a 32.76% unit share.

And in October, that jumped to 30.48% dollar share and a 32.99% unit share. But where did the rest of the 5.5 points go?

Take a look at Image Comics. They have had a softer year since Saga went on hiatus. But a little Millarworld and Walking Dead anniversary action may have helped. In August, they had 8.90% and 9.08%. In September they had 10.13% and 8.74%, And in October, a 12.62% dollar share and a 12.64% unit share, a 2.5 and 4 point bump. IDW and Dynamite also had around a point bump each as well.

Batman #57 topped the chart, followed by the Walking Dead 15th Anniversary Edition – which was interesting and makes me wonder what other markets it may have been sold into. Lots of stores had retailer variant covers – were there some shows involved with this? Worked for Millarworld.

Outside of the top ten, Dark Horse Comics’ Stranger Things #2 ranked #63; IDW Publishing’s Batman/The MaxxArkham Dreams #1 ranked #64; BOOM! Studios’ Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #32 ranked #160; and Dynamite Entertainment’s KISS: Blood and Stardust #1 ranked #216.

While Sean Murphy‘s Batman: White Knight was October’s best-selling graphic novel, followed by Wonder Woman Earth One Vol 2, it is also worth noting that Image’s stats may have been helped by My Heroes Have Always Been Junkies, Isola, The Wicked + The Divine and Gideon Falls all outselling the first volume of the new Avengers series.

Destiny 2 is Under-Performing Says Activision

During an investor call, Activision said that while games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is doing very well, it’s disappointed with the performance of Destiny 2: Forsaken.

Destiny

Destiny is possibly in the greatest shape in the best shape of its life. The franchise is famous for its ups and downs, Destiny 2 following a similar pattern to that of the first. A rocky, controversial year one and then an expansion that turns the ship around. Forsaken’s been a revelation for Destiny 2 though. The fanbase is, for the most part, happy with the content and the sheer amount of things to do. Many are still engaged months after its initial release.

However, that being the case, it doesn’t seem that this refocus on the hardcore is translating to sales. In an investors call, Activision praised the performance of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, but went on to say it was disappointed with Destiny 2: Forsaken. As a result, Activision has said it’s looking for faster content drops and additional monetization avenues. In the call, Activision COO Coddy Johnson said (via Forbes) that the publisher believes there are players who just aren’t coming back to the game. He said:

We have not yet seen the full core re-engage in Destiny which led to the underperformance against expectations to date. Some players are in ‘wait and see’ mode. If you’re in, you’re deeply engaged. If not, we think now’s the time to bring players back.

This sets up a potentially uncomfortable standoff between what the audience wants and what the publisher wants. The fanbase currently engaged right now, of which I am one, are in. However, will that be the case if the game has to embrace a broader appeal again and more microtransactions? Is this a case of Activision readjusting its expectations of Destiny 2? The game still sells incredibly well but obviously, Activision wants it to be one of, if not the biggest game every year. Is that sustainable for this franchise? This certainly brings up some interesting questions.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 13, Episode 10 ‘Mac Finds His Pride’: McElhenney Shines in Bold, Heartfelt Finale (REVIEW)

Welcome back to Bleeding Cool‘s weekly review of FXX‘s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, as we offer up our thoughts on the 13th season finale, ‘Mac Finds His Pride.’

He faced his Dennis (Glenn Howerton) issues with a sex doll. He helped The Gang escape. He found an interesting new way to “elevate” Dee (Kaitlin Olson). He beat a bunch of kids to near-death with Charlie (Charlie Day). He sparked a gender-based bathroom debate, helped alter reality, and even helped the Philadelphia Eagles win the Super Bowl. All-in-all, Mac’s (Rob McElhenney) had a pretty productive 13th season.

But one thing he hasn’t done? Come out to his dad Luther Mac (Gregory Scott Cummins), a move Frank (Danny DeVito) realizes Mac has to pull off if he’s ever going to feel secure as a gay man. So on the eve of Paddy’s run at Philadelphia’s Gay Pride Parade, The Gang’s going to do what they have to do until ‘Mac Finds His Pride.’

So check out our review of FXX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia s13e10 ‘Mac Finds His Pride’ and see why this episode not only wore its heart on both sleeves but served as the exclamation point to a season that went in some bold, new – and hysterically funny – directions.

Spoiler Warnings: I’ll be covering some themes and takeaways involving major and minor plot points from the episode, so just keep that in mind. Definitely not looking for pitchforks and torches outside my apartment.

It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia Season 13, Episode 10 ‘Mac Finds His Pride’: Frank tries to recruit Mac for the gang’s kickass float for the Gay Pride Parade. It dawns on Frank that Mac will never be secure with his sexual identity unless he comes out to his father. Written by Rob McElhenney & Charlie Day; Directed by Todd Biermann.

always sunny s13e10 review

They say that desperate times call for desperate measure – but in this scene from ‘Mac Finds His Pride,’ for The Gang it’s more like desperate times call for…Cricket (David Hornsby)?!?!?

Marvel to Run ‘Action Doll’ Homage Covers for Marvel Rising Promotion

Marvel released the animated movie Marvel Rising: Secret Warriors, the first of the Marvel Rising franchise in September.

Featuring Ms. Marvel, Squirrel Girl, Inferno, America Chavez, Ghost-Spider, Quake and Patriot, with Ironheart joining in the animated series.

And in November, a number of Marvel’s comic series are to get ‘Action Doll’ Homage covers for Marvel Rising. No details, or images yet, but one might suggest dolls/action figures of the Marvel Rising cast, reprising classic covers from Marvel’s history?

Just a guess, but these are the titles where you will find these covers in December… so far.

  • AVENGERS #12
  • CAPTAIN AMERICA #6
  • CHAMPIONS #27
  • DEFENDERS BEST DEFENSE #1
  • UNBEATABLE SQUIRREL GIRL #39

Let me know when you see any of these in the wild…

Ironheart #1 Grows in Size, Costs an Extra Dollar, at $4.99

The extra-sized launch or relaunch issue from Marvel Comics is one of those facts of life now. It helps bump up the revenue of what will likely be the series’ best-selling issue as well as provide as many reasons for readers to want to pick up the second, cheaper issue.

And such is the case with the upcoming Ironheart #1. Rather than a 32 page comic for $3.99, it will now be a 40 page comic for $4.99, for November 28th.

Since the change was announced later in the day, however, the comic will be made returnable at some point. Which, given the incentives to order lots of copies, may be quite a few.

Of course, like with Batman #50 and Catwoman #1, announcing returnability later in the game might not affect the reported sales statistics for the title (though it will up the retail stats). We’ll have to check that out, as and when…

IRONHEART #1 HANS VAR

THE FORMER STAR OF INVINCIBLE IRON MAN HEADLINES HER OWN SOLO SERIES!
When a group of world leaders is taken hostage by one of Spider-Man’s old foes, Riri Williams will have to step up her game. And she’ll be stunned when someone from back in Sweet Home Chicago enters her life… CHAMPIONS artist Kevin Libranda joins award-winning poet Eve Ewing, as Ironheart steps boldly out of Tony Stark’s shadow to forge her own future!
