DC Walmart Giant Sized-Comics Make it to the UK – for Only Twice the Cover Price

I’m in Newcastle-Upon-Tyne today, a city I haven’t been to for twenty years, not since Alan Moore‘s 40th birthday recording of Birth Caul. But I used to live here, as a student at the University and then working for local radio station Metro FM. So I took the chance to walk through the university and the city, refamiliarising myself with its landmarks.

Including a certain Forbidden Planet (previously Timeslip) on Grainger Street. And what was once a very small shop has expanded rather in the last two decades.

And downstairs in the basement with the rest of the comics? A few titles from the grey market, snatched off the shelves of Walmarts in the UK, posted to the North East of England and put on display.

That’s £10 each – or around $12-13 these days. Twice the cover price which is pretty good considering they will have been bought at retail price and posted halfway around the world.

Oh and Kieron and Jamie? They appear to have sold out of this week’s The Wicked + The Divine.

Blizzard’s Schedule for Gamescom 2018 Has Been Revealed

As we get closer to Gamescom 2018, we are now seeing the final plans of major studios for the event, including the latest from Blizzard. Below is some information that was released on Gamescom’s official app and reposted in several forums, detailing what the company plans to do on Wednesday, August 22nd. While details are sketchy, it appears you’ll be seeing a little something form everything under the Blizzard umbrella. Here’s hoping we get a couple big reveals during their presentation.

For those attending Gamescom 2018, the Blizzard at Gamescom app offers several features once you scan certain things scattered through the event, like the Overwatch Pachimari machine.

  • WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 22
  • All events at the Main Stage.

    • Opening | 10:30am
    • Overwatch | 11:15am
    • World of Warcraft | 12:30pm
    • StarCraft | 1:15pm
    • Heroes of the Storm 2:30pm
    • Diablo | 3:45pm

Times likely in Central European Time. The other days feature Island Expedition showcases for Warcraft, as well as the famous cosplay contest.

We also have the gamescom art, featuring Azshara! We’ve also noticed a limited-edition set of Warbringers: Azshara prints will be for sale at the convention, so it’s safe to say we’ll see the cinematic revealed then. Azshara will be the final boss of an upcoming raid in Battle for Azeroth, similar to Gul’dan place in Legion.

Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, 19th August 2018 – ‘We’ve Been Seeing More and More Batman Attrition’

This is the Top Ten Bleeding Cool Bestseller List, as compiled by a number of comic stores from their sales on Wednesday and Thursday. It measures what are known as the “Wednesday Warriors”, those who can’t wait for the weekend to get this week’s comics. We salute you, and the keenness you bring to your passion.

Batman #53 art by Lee Weeks and Elizabeth Breitweiser

Batman and Justice League were hard to separate at the top. Some stores had Batman as bestseller, some had Justice League. This is the biggest competition from an ongoing series that Batman has had in years. DC is the winner.

The following plateau of Infinity Wars and Extermination from Marvel also edging each other out for a place. But fewer ongoing series from Marvel and DC this week let Bendis’ new book Pearl slip in, and ahead of Millar’s Magic Order…

  1. Batman #53
  2. Justice League #6
  3. Infinity Wars #2
  4. Extermination #1
  5. Thor #4
  6. Edge of Spider-Geddon #1
  7. Aquaman #39
  8. Batgirl #25
  9. Pearl #1
  10. Magic Order #3
  11. Tony Stark: Iron Man #2

Thanks to the following retailers:

And here’s what they had to say:

Batman is at the top of the FFF Top Ten this week like most weeks. Marvel had some solid sellers with Edge of Spider-Geddon and Extermination landing at #5 and #6 respectively. Tony Stark managed to squeak in at the end with the help of a few extra sales from the beautiful Adam Hughes variant. Pearl, Bendis’s first creator-owned book at DC had a solid start, but it needs to actually come out on a regular schedule to keep its numbers. Another Scarlet just isn’t going to sell in the long run, regardless of how good it is. Babyteeth took the #3 spot this week just in front of Infinity Wars. After a shocking first two issues, I feel like we’re just going to see IW’s numbers drop until the end. Overall it was a solid week. No real surprises. Some good sales for #1s that I hope don’t drop too much. But Batman and Donny Cates top our Top Ten and that’s going to be the norm for a while to come.

—-

Justice League actually beat out Batman for the number 1 slot this week. JL has been incredibly well for us. Fantastic Four made it in to the top 10 for the second week in a row. Extermination had an extremely strong debut this week. Marvel seems to be getting more things right than wrong lately. I hope it keeps up.

—-

Right now I’m patiently waiting on a restock of Batman #53 as we have sold well past our normal numbers that are already incredibly high on the book. It is consistently our highest seller and our highest subbed book. Infinity Wars is cutting down heroes left and right and garnering a lot of attention in the process. Magic Order covers A and B were available only on request this week as I didn’t have enough black bags that we normally use for adult titles. I’m not looking to cash in on my comic book legal defense fund dues because some child going for the nearby Marvel Rising and Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers was traumatized by the oily, sloppy, tongue covered orgy cover they graced us with this week.
—-
This week brings us the expected top spot occupied by BATMAN. Overall, however, DC is uncharacteristically scarce on our list this week: the only other title from the publisher on our top 10 is JUSTICE LEAGUE.

Marvel has a little bit of everything all over the place, from core stalwarts like PETER PARKER SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN and THOR, to a smattering of various event miniseries like EDGE OF SPIDER-GEDDON, HUNT FOR WOLVERINE CLAWS OF A KILLER, and INFINITY WAR… S.

Other than an off-week from DC allowing some of Marvel’s miscellany to hang out in first class this week, nothing particularly exciting to talk about.

—-

Weak sales week. Hopefully everyone is getting ready for back to school. Infinity Wars is ice cold. Not even close to a top ten book for us. What if Marvel had an event and no one cared? That is Infinity Wars. Extermination 1 and Edge of Spider-Geddon 1 also have started off poorly for us. DC’s variant covers for Batgirl 25 and Aquaman 39 were far more popular. Justice League over took Batman for the top spot. Sonic the Hedgehog 8 made the top ten. The fact it sells for us in the double digits is proof anything could have made it this week. Was shorted Magic Order and Weapon X this week so they had no chance of making the top ten.

—-

For the first time since we’ve been doing these weekly Bleeding Cool Bestseller List reports, an issue of Batman came out and it was NOT our store’s top seller. Instead, Justice League #6 passed it by three copies, with Extermination coming in just one book behind Batman. In the aftermath of the wedding debacle, we’ve been seeing more and more Batman attrition, with Batman #53 being the lowest first-day seller for us of any Rebirth or post-rebirth issue. The end result: four DC’s on our top ten list, four Marvels, and two Image titles (Magic Order and Gideon Falls). This may be the beginning of a bad trend for DC, since reader comments are very reminiscent of what readers were saying in the last year of New 52.

Notable sales:

Uncanny X-Men #133 F $20 Great issue smack dab in the middle of the Dark Phoenix Saga.

Amazing Spider-Man #252 FN $70 Symbiote Fever is catching!

Preacher Rewind 308: A Look Back at Bleeding Cool’s Thoughts on ‘The Tom/Brady’

AMC

Welcome once again to Bleeding Cool‘s Preacher Rewind, as we look back at our thoughts on ‘The Tom/Brady’ heading into the final two third season episodes of AMC‘s series adaptation of the Garth Ennis/Steve Dillon comic book series.

So were Jesse (Dominic Cooper), Tulip (Ruth Negga), and Herr Starr (Pip Torrens) able to break Angelville’s hold and avert the Allfather’s (Jonny Coyne) Humperdoo (Tyson Ritter) apocalypse – especially now that Satan (Jason Douglas) is in the mix thanks to Gran’ma (Betty Buckley)? Did Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) discover Eccarius’ (Adam Croasdell) secret in time to save the others? Was The Saint of Killers (Graham McTavish) able to deliver his bounty bundle of Eugene (Ian Colletti) and Hitler (Noah Taylor) to Satan as easily as it appears?

AMC

One more time…this is Preacher, people! Did you really think any of this was going to go smoothly? Check out our review of ‘The Tom/Brady’ below and see why the show’s growing manic energy and converging storylines are only two of the main reasons why we feel the series has been firing on all cylinders raging into its final two episodes this season:

Preacher s03e08 ‘The Tom/Brady’: Annville, Angelville and the Grail team up to steal souls in New Orleans and Osaka in a last-ditch effort to satisfy Gran’ma and save the world.

AMC

As we can see from the trailer/sneak preview for AMC Preacher season 3, episode 9, ‘Schwanzkopf’, Featherstone (Julie Ann Emery), Eugene, and Hitler’s bus ride to Hell might just end up being the lesser of about a dozen evils compared to Jesse’s inevitable one-on-one with the Allfather and Cassidy’s painful (for him) attempts to expose Eccarius. And then there’s Tulip, who apparently will never pass up the chance to look The Angel of Death (Erinn Ruth) in the eye and call her “Satan’s bitch”…

Preacher s03e09 ‘Schwanzkopf’: Divided and trapped, Tulip, Jesse and Cassidy battle old friends, new enemies and loved ones to escape certain death – or worse.

PREACHER is a dramatic thrill ride that follows West Texas preacher Jesse Custer (Dominic Cooper), his badass girlfriend Tulip (Academy Award nominee Ruth Negga) and an Irish vampire named Cassidy (Joseph Gilgun) as they embark on a road trip to find God and are thrust into a twisted battle spanning Heaven, Hell and everywhere in between.

The 10-episode third season follows Jesse’s quest for God which takes him back to the place he’s been avoiding his whole life: home. Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy return to Angelville, the Louisiana Plantation where Jesse was raised, and find old grudges and deadly obligations await them. With the help of his friends — and a few enemies — Jesse will need to escape his past…because the future of the world depends on it.

Ian Colletti, Graham McTavish, Pip Torrens, Julie Ann Emery, Malcolm Barrett, and Noah Taylor also return for the third season of Preacher, joined by new series regulars Betty Buckley (Supergirl, Split), Colin Cunningham (Blood Drive, Falling Skies), Jeremy Childs (The Last Castle, Nashville), Liz McGeever (Star, Nashville), Jonny Coyne (Turn, Alcatraz), Adam Croasdell (Reign), and Prema Cruz (Mozart in the Jungle).

Music Engine is Returning With Another Suikoden II Concert Series

Music Engine has made an official announcement on their website that they’ll be holding another Suikoden II concert. If you’re not familiar with the group, they’re basically a Japanese-based company that performs all sorts of video game soundtracks and music, covering several titles that are globally known all the way to content only released in Japan. Music Engine has received a lot of praise for their faithful adaptations to certain soundtracks, one of them being the complete score to the PS1 classic RPG from Konami, Suikoden II. And now it appears they’ll be performing this set once more.

credit//Konami

According to their website, tickets are currently on sale for a special one-night-only performance at the Muza Kawasaki Symphony Hall in Kawasaki, Kanagawa. There will be a lunch performance followed by an evening performance, in which they will play about 50 songs from the game. The show will be held on November 1st with tickets going for about $55 a pop.

It’s funny, as over this weekend, I was discussing with another gaming journalist that if Konami released Suikoden 1 and 2 together in a collection on the PS4 tomorrow, it would sell hand-over-fist. The fact that people are clamoring to get tickets for this show three months out is proof that the series is still super popular over 20 years later and needs to have a resurgence.

Trish Stratus Returns for Evolution Dream Match Against Alexa Bliss

Sometimes, events in the world of pro wrestling work out so neatly, you might almost suspect they were predetermined. Yesterday, Alexa Bliss told British reflection-themed tabloid The Mirror that she would like to face WWE Hall-of-Famer Trish Stratus in a match at the upcoming all-women Evolution PPV. Later that night, a graphic was shown at NXT Takeover Brooklyn advertising that very match. What a coincidence!

Here’s what Bliss said before the match was announced, asked who she’d like to wrestle at the PPV:

Trish Stratus, because I watched her when I was growing up and was one person I would love to get in the ring with. I always watched her and think it would be fun to be in the ring with her.

Will she still think it’s fun when on the receiving end of a Trish Kick or a Stratusfaction? WWE made things official:

As if WWE Evolution, the groundbreaking all-women’s pay-per-view, wasn’t already historic enough, Raw Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss will face seven-time Women’s Champion Trish Stratus in what is sure to be a match for the ages.

The Goddess, who is set to defend her Raw Women’s Championship against Ronda Rousey at SummerSlam, will battle the WWE Hall of Famer for the first time at the pay-per-view event set for Sunday, Oct. 28, at 7 ET/4 PT. Not only will this be Bliss and Stratus’ first match against each other, but it will also mark Stratus’ first match since competing in the first-ever Women’s Royal Rumble Match earlier this year.

WWE Evolution will stream live on WWE Network, featuring women’s championship matches from Raw, SmackDown LIVE, NXT and NXT UK, as well as the final of the second annual Mae Young Classic 2018.

A match at Evolution will be Stratus’s first since competing in the Royal Rumble in January, and her first singles match since defeating Lita at Unforgiven in 2006, her “retirement” match. A 7-time Women’s Champion, now a mother of two, Stratus stands as one of the few remaining elite stars from the Attitude Era who can still wrestle a high-caliber match two-decades later.

This YouTube video of Stratus’s Rumble Return has more than 3.5 million views.

Fans who watched Stratus’s appearance at the first-ever women’s Royal Rumble, however, are still waiting for her to get her revenge on Sasha Banks, whose surprise elimination of Trish capped off a show-stealing heelish performance which has yet to be paid off. Is it too early to hope for Evolution in October to set up a storyline between Banks and Stratus for WrestleMania (or Evolution 2, since Sasha may need to wrap up her feud with Bayley at Mania)? Well, if Alexa Bliss is already looking to October while she’s defending her Raw Women’s Championship against Ronda Rousey tonight at SummerSlam, it should be fair game.

Anna Williams and Lei Wulong Receive Release Dates for Tekken 7

Back at EVO 2018, Bandai Namco dropped a couple DLC character bombs on us in the form of Anna Williams, Lei Wulong, and Negan for Tekken 7. While the last got the most attention for being a popular character in The Walking Dead series, the first two got much more praise from gamers as it was nice to see a couple familiar faces return to the mix, even though they’re just being added as DLC content and were not part of the storyline this time around. Now the company is ready to share when you’ll be able to download both of them for your game.

credit//Bandai Namco

According to both of the updated trailers below, each character will be available on September 6th, and they’ll run you $5 a piece unless you have the Season 2 pass. Just checking out their Tekken 7 trailers below make them worth the cash as they each bring something different to the table and are not carbon copies of other characters with different skins and voice work attached. It’s actually a bit of a shame it took both of them over a year to be added to the game. Enjoy checking them out as we’ll see them officially arrive in about three weeks.

Fear the Walking Dead Rewind 409: A Look Back at Our Thoughts on ‘People Like Us’

AMC

Welcome once again to Bleeding Cool‘s Fear the Walking Dead Rewind, as we take a look back at our thoughts on ‘People Like Us’ ahead of tonight’s new episode.

AMC‘s Fear the Walking Dead returned for the second-half of their fourth season last Sunday, riding high off of mostly positive reactions to some major series changes. By killing two main characters, introducing several new survivors, and transitioning Lennie James‘s Morgan from The Walking Dead to Fear the Walking Dead, showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg crafted a balancing act of introducing new viewers to the FTWD “universe” without sacrificing the loyal fanbase or the show’s core themes in the process (though they may not have always liked every decision they made).

AMC

But did that carry through to the mid-season premiere? Not so much…

Find out why ‘People Like Us’ felt like a major step backwards for the series and what it needs to do to get itself back on track in out review below:

Fear the Walking Dead s04e09 ‘People Like Us’: Morgan tries to help Alicia and this fractured group of survivors as a storm brews.

Here’s a look at what viewers can expect from this week’s episode of AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead, ‘Close Your Eyes,’ as well as a look at what the cast and crew have in store for us for the remainder of the fourth season:

Fear the Walking Dead s04e10 ‘Close Your Eyes’: Alicia’s forced to reckon with an agonizing past while seeking refuge from a storm.

The first half of season four began with one figure huddled around a campfire, and ended with nine. Characters who started their journeys in isolation collided with each other in unexpected ways and found themselves in one of the last places they ever expected to be…together. In the back half of the season they will explore who they are now – as individuals and as part of the greater group – and how they will forge ahead. They will find themselves pitted against new adversaries – human, walker, and even nature itself. Theirs will be a journey wrought with danger, love, heartbreak, loss, and ultimately, hope.

Fear the Walking Dead is executive produced by Scott M. Gimple, showrunners Andrew Chambliss and Ian Goldberg, as well as Robert Kirkman, David Alpert, Gale Anne Hurd, and Greg Nicotero, and produced by AMC Studios. The series stars Lennie James, Alycia Debnam-Carey, Colman Domingo, Danay Garcia, Garret Dillahunt, Maggie Grace, Jenna Elfman, Alexa Nisenson, Mo Collins, Daryl “Chill” Mitchell, Aaron Stanford, Tonya Pinkins, and Stephen Henderson.

The Next Splatoon 2 Splatfest Will Revolve Around Utensils

We’re going to be gearing up for another Splatfest in Splatoon 2, but this one doesn’t really have us as excited as the others. Usually, when Nintendo releases the details of these they tend to be a little exciting as you wonder what goes through the minds of their fanbase and you get to see how passionately people fight over some of the most common life-altering and defining questions. But this time around, it feels like the crew behind Splatoon 2 are just running on autopilot as they have a pretty dumb one coming up.

credit//Nintendo

The next Splatfest will focus on which utensil you prefer to eat with: fork or spoon. Yep, that’s it. Just which do you prefer to use when eating your food. It’s the kind of competition that, at best, we kinda have to say “meh” to, as it doesn’t really provoke a passionate response out of us one way or the other. And it also makes us feel like Nintendo isn’t trying this time around. There are so many better questions to be asked! This competition will kick off on August 24th at 11pm PDT and run a full 24 hours as you decide which you like eating with more.

Call of Duty World League 2018 Championship Finals Predictions

I’m not much of a betting woman, but if I were going to make predictions about tomorrow’s CWL Championship Grand Finals, I’d have some interesting bracket choices. As things stand, at the start of the final day of the Call of Duty World League 2018 Championships, we have EvilGeniuses and Team Kaliber while the loser’s bracket Round 4 includes a Team Envy and FaZe Clan rematch as well as a match between EUnited and Luminosity.

While Team Kaliber took home the win at CWL Anaheim, the 2018 season of the Call of Duty World League has been nothing but a series of surprises, last minute comebacks, and upsets. And the Championship tournament has continued that trend, which is why I think TK isn’t going to be taking home the 2018 CWL Championship rings.

FaZe Clan have basically been sitting in the losers bracket all season, though they did come close to the grand finals in Anaheim. However, they lost out to Luminosity in Anaheim’s Loser’s Bracket Round 7 and to Team Kaliber in the Loser’s Bracket Round 4 in Seattle. It hasn’t been a particularly great season for FaZe, and with a cheating scandal breaking out days ahead of CWL Seattle, it would be one hell of a comeback if they did manage to get to the Grand Finals and win the title. Which is why I’m going to throw my hat in on FaZe as the winners this year, even though it is a pretty incredible longshot.

What can I say, I really like improbable predictions. However, a whole lot of the internet is pulling for FaZe to win this year, despite TK’s clear dominance at Hardpoint. A few are still backing EG and EUnited, but it looks like most are really hoping for an underdog story for either FaZe or LG to win in a doublesweep.

If you wanted to go ahead and fill out your own version of the bracket, here’s a set for tomorrow’s matches. Feel free to make your own predictions and commiserate with me when you’re wrong. Because yes, I know this one is a hell of a bet. But what’s internet sports betting for if not to make slightly outlandish predictions, huh?

On the other hand, I’m not going to be crying however this shakes down, because tomorrow’s going to be fun to watch regardless of which team becomes the Call of Duty World League 2018 Champions.

Team Kaliber and Evil Geniuses Survive in the CWL Champs Day 4 Winner’s Bracket

After four full days of competition, things at the Call of Duty World League Championships have finally hit something of a stride. Today was the second day of the double-elimination bracket, and as the CWL has done all season long, it was full of surprising upsets and more than a few surprise placements. Which, okay, I guess makes that stride comment seem totally out of place. But the CWL has a double-elimination style bracket, so often times the first day can feel pretty damn slow. Of course, with OpTic Gaming (a group who took home last year’s Championship title) knocked out of the running before the double elimination second stage started, things were definitely going to be a little wonky this year. Yeah, you read that right. OpTic was knocked out of the running for the 2018 Championship title during the group phase on Thursday. That string of upsets continued as Rise Nation was eliminated last night, resulting in some harsh comments by Slasher, who tweeted that this was the “actual worst day of [his] life.” That tweet has been deleted since, but this is the internet, so screencaps still exist and were grabbed by Dextero.

Today’s surprises were a bit happier, as EvilGeniuses has managed to stay in the Winner’s bracket with a surprising turnaround against OpTic Gaming, and further victories against Team Vitality and Lightning Pandas. Their surprising win streak continued against Team Envy, who had previously taken out both FaZe Clan and Ghost Gaming. Which has locked EG into top three placement for the tournament, and assured them a place in the winner’s bracket final. Since EvilGeniuses was my personal favorite to win the CWL Seattle tournament, I’m pretty happy for the boys.

Meanwhile the outcome of the TeamKaliber vs EUnited match was a bit more heated, with Team Kaliber stealing the win with a tense Hardpoint match. Sure, Hardpoint is one of Kaliber’s best modes, but EUnited put up one hell of a fight. Meaning tomorrow’s Winner’s Final will take place between Team Kaliber and EvilGeniuses.

The Losers Bracket has a bit more elimination to go through, but things look pretty solid by now. While Ghost Gaming is out of the run, FaZe Clan still lives on to face Team Envy again tomorrow. Meanwhile Luminosity is set to face off against EUnited.  So things are going to be pretty exciting for the final day of CWL Champs tomorrow.

At the end of the night, the final six teams are:

Winner’s Bracket Finals

  • EvilGeniuses vs. Team Kaliber

Loser’s Bracket Round 4

  • Team Envy vs. FaZe Clan
  • EUnited vs. Luminosity
