South Park: Fractured But Whole PC Required And Recommended Specs Announced

https://static.gamespot.com/uploads/scale_super/123/1239113/3272455-sp9.jpg

It’s felt like an incredibly long wait for the next South Park RPG, but its release draws near. With about only two months to go, Ubisoft has shared the type of hardware you’ll need–as well as what you’ll want–in order to play The Fractured But Whole on PC.

As you might expect for a game that is meant to resemble South Park, the system requirements aren’t extremely demanding. They are notably above those of the previous game, The Stick of Truth, for which you could get away with running Windows XP and having only 2 GB of RAM, which now sounds downright quaint.

The Fractured But Whole calls for only an i5 2400 or FX 4320, GTX 560Ti or HD 7850, and 6 GB of RAM. Keep in mind, however, that Ubisoft cites this as the baseline to run the game at 60 FPS but only at 720p resolution with low video presets and without V-Sync. That’s likely a less than ideal experience, especially if you’re in the majority of users who have a higher resolution monitor.

Ubisoft also provided its recommended specs: an i5-4690K or FX-8350, GTX 670 or R9 280X, and 8 GB of RAM. The publisher states this should be sufficient to run the game at 1080p and 60 FPS with high presets but, again, no V-Sync.

The Fractured But Whole launches for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 17. Unlike the previous game, which was developed by Fallout: New Vegas studio Obsidian Entertainment, it’s developed by Ubisoft San Francisco. Ubisoft also has another South Park game, Phone Destroyer, in the works for mobile devices.

Here’s How You’ll Get Pokemon Ultra Sun/Moon’s New Lycanroc

https://static.gamespot.com/uploads/original/1578/15787979/3272448-2692622027-DG84z.jpg

Last week, Pokemon fans got their first look at a new Pokemon that will debut in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon: Dusk Form Lycanroc, a third version of the popular Rock-type wolf Pokemon. Today, we learned some more details about the new monster, including how players can acquire it.

As previously detailed, players won’t be able to obtain Dusk Form Lycanroc through traditional means. Instead, all those who pick up an early copy of either Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon will receive its pre-evolved form, Rockruff, as a free gift. Previously, Rockruff would evolve into either its Midday or Midnight Form depending upon which game you were playing; this particular Pokemon, however, will evolve into its new Dusk Form, making it the only way to add one to your team at this time.

Like its other two variants, Dusk Form Lycanroc is a pure Rock-type. It can learn both Accelerock and Counter, two attacks that were associated with its Midday and Midnight Forms, respectively. Unlike the other two versions, its ability is Tough Claws, which increases the power of attacks that make direct contact with an opponent.

Pokemon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon release for 3DS on November 17. Those who purchase either title before January 10 will be able to receive the bonus Rockruff via Nintendo Network. Meanwhile, Sun and Moon players can pick up a code for a free Salazzle at GameStop stores from August 14-September 4.

Film

Why didn’t I think of that? | Watch 5 Films About Wild Inventors

Check out the National Film Board of Canada for more like this!

Set to make its world premiere at TIFF2017 this fall, THE TESLA WORLD LIGHT is a dazzling short film about the father of alternating current, visionary inventor Nikola Tesla. Inspired by real events, director Matthew Rankin’s avante-garde-influenced film offers up a tragic fantasy as Tesla makes one last appeal to J.P. Morgan, his onetime benefactor.

oehttps://www.nfb.ca/film/tesla_world_light/

Tesla’s discoveries built the very foundation for the modern power grid. But there are other discoveries you can make in the NFB collection, with films about wild inventors and their wonderful creations.

Project Grizzly

Perhaps the best-known of all the films in this list is the 1996 cult hit Project Grizzly, featuring DIY North Bay-based inventor Troy Hurtubise and his attempts to perfect a grizzly-bear proof suit of armour.  Troy puts himself through all manner of ordeals as he tries to perfect his creation—and while his invention would earn Troy an Ig Nobel Prize and help inspire an episode of The Simpsons, Troy was deadly serious.

oehttps://www.nfb.ca/film/project_grizzly/

The Balgonie Birdman

Just one year after the Wright brothers made their historic first flight in 1903, Balgonie, Saskatchewan-based inventor Bill Gibson started working on his own flying machine. Bill would eventually relocate to BC before making it into the air in 1910, with Canada’s first human-powered flight. His pioneering contributions to Canadian aviation are brought to life via stop-motion animation in the delightful short, The Balgonie Birdman.

oehttps://www.nfb.ca/film/balgonie_birdman/

The Devil at Your Heels

Maybe some ideas are never meant to leave the ground. Or at least that’s what one might think after watching the jaw-dropping The Devil at Your Heels, about Canadian stuntman Ken Carter’s attempt to jump one mile over the Saint Lawrence River by attaching rockets to a full-size Lincoln Continental.  Yes, a Lincoln. I’m sure that’s one way to void the warranty.

oehttps://www.nfb.ca/film/devil_at_your_heels/

For great info on this film and Carter, who would die tragically during a subsequent attempt at rocket-powered car flight, check out Albert Ohayon’s post: “The Devil at Your Heels: Is this for real?”

Night Mayor

And what invention could be more quintessentially Canadian than the “Telemelodium,” which broadcast images of Canada from coast to coast in 1939 using the Aurora Borealis? Alright, so it didn’t actually exist. Still, Guy Maddin’s mad creation in Night Mayor is a totally cool idea—and was in fact intended as a metaphor for the NFB, in a 2009 film Maddin created to help mark the film board’s 70th anniversary.

Five Things I Already Love About Agents Of Mayhem

Next week Volition launches Saints Row spin-off Agents of Mayhem, an open-world action adventure featuring a group of super-powered operatives battling an evil organization bent on world domination. I’ve played five hours of the game, and already there’s a lot to like.

It’s Basically G.I. Joe Meets Overwatch

A multi-national fighting force comprised of women and men with unique powers and personalities facing off against a global terrorist organization? It’s G.I. Joe versus Cobra all over again, with some cool future tech and much more racy writing. Just look at the PS4 opening splash screen.

On the left, we’ve got some folks ready to fight for freedom wherever there is trouble, though mostly Seoul, Korea, since the game is based there. On the right, a ruthless terrorist organization determined to rule the world.

On the Overwatch side of things, the agents are designed like characters in a hero shooter. Each has a signature weapon, special abilities and even an ultimate.

My wife really wants to be Daisy. I am not buying her a chain gun. Maybe a gym membership and some roller-skates.

If you’ve ever played a multiplayer-only hero shooter and wished it had an extensive single-player campaign, this is it.

Riding In Cars With Agents Of Mayhem

While not technically a Saints Row game (Agents of Mayhem takes place on a world spawned via a specific ending to Saints Row IV’s “Gat Out Of Hell” expansion), jacking cars is still a key mechanic in AoM. What I love is how the characters enter the vehicles they “commandeer.” That is to say, with high-tech style. Check it out.

https://kinja.com/ajax/inset/iframe?id=youtube-video-k6u6crnDMgQ&start=0

What tickles the hell out of me here is that all of the agents warp into vehicles with this cool animation, but when it’s time to leave they just open the door and step out.

And the massive Hardtack is definitely shrinking to fit inside the driver’s seat.

Agent Unlockatuer

The game begins with the player in control of three agents—full-of-himself action star Hollywood, bad-ass shotgunner Hardtack and tech-savvy stunner Fortune. New agents are recruited to the team via special solo missions. These help players get a handle on the new weapons and tactics each new agent brings to the table, while providing valuable backstory via in-mission dialog and awesome animated cutscenes.

https://kinja.com/ajax/inset/iframe?id=youtube-video-W1eMrSB8THk&start=0

I wish every hero shooter did this for its characters. Overwatch has its animated shorts, which are nice, but wouldn’t it be better if those shorts led into playable solo missions? No? Stop comparing the game to Overwatch? Okay.

All agents, even the ones the game starts with, eventually get a couple of spotlight missions that delve into their motivation for joining Mayhem and give us insight into their character. It’s endeared me to these silly fighting people. They are my friends now.

Meanwhile, Back At HQ

While not tooling around the streets of Seoul, jacking cars and breaking the hearts and bodies of evil men, the agents relax at their expansive headquarters. Here they can craft upgrades, participate in holographic combat exercises, apply skins to weapons, characters and vehicles and upgrade their agency with valuable perks and benefits.

Let me take you on a tour.

https://kinja.com/ajax/inset/iframe?id=youtube-video-Stq9CJ2Rxq0&start=0

It’s nice to have a incredibly expensive hub to call home. Home is where the hub is.

The More You Know

In case the ‘80s cartoon vibe wasn’t palpable enough, heading back to HQ results in a commercial break’s worth bit of sage advice from members of the team.

Maybe not sage advice. I won’t spoil many of these for you. Just the Rama one.

Okay, and this Hollywood one.

Agents of Mayhem arrives next week on Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. Look for a full review next week. In the meantime, rest assured I am enjoying myself. Have a momonga.

Cops Bust Fake Arcade Company, Interrupt Baller Lifestyle

Six people from Santa Clara, California have been arrested and charged with selling arcade cabinets full of “counterfeit games”, which they are alleged to have been profiting off to live like rock stars.

As the San Francisco Chronicle report, a woman, her son, ex-husband and three others were arrested on Thursday and accused of “forging” and selling arcade cabinets that “played classics such as Galaga, Tank Battalion and five different versions of Pac-Man.”

Those games are all from Namco Bandai, who as The Mercury News point out, also have their American offices in Santa Clara. The six accused had been operating a company called CoinOpStore, selling cabinets containing between “60 and 3,000 counterfeit games” pre-loaded onto them.

Prosecutors say the six have been charged with a total of 14 counts of felony counterfeiting. They’re also saying that in addition to possible fines and prison time (there’s a maximum sentence of 11 years), the money the accused made from selling the machines—and the stuff they bought with it—might be seized as well.

That list of stuff includes “$1.2 million in cash, a 2012 Mercedes Benz, a 2015 BMW and five properties.”

We are all in the wrong line of work.
