Custom Gamerpics, Console Co-streaming, Arena Updates and More Roll Out to Xbox Fans Today

Fan feedback is an important part of how we’ve built Xbox over the years, and this month’s update, which we expect to roll out later today, is all about addressing feedback from the community:

  • Upload custom Gamerpics to your Xbox profile; choose how you want to express yourself.
  • Mixer Co-streaming is now on console, for everyone: With just a few clicks, you and up to three of your friends can stream together in a single broadcast. Plus, never miss your friends’ streams inside your Club and Arena Tournaments.
  • Sign-in to your Xbox One with just one press of the Xbox button on your controller. Now you can make your controller truly your own.
  • New user-generated tournaments for Killer Instinct on Xbox One means it’s never been easier to go to battle with your friends.

Xbox App on iOS and Android updates bring support for LFG Sharing, Game Pass Browsing, an updated Language/Location Setting and an Android-only feature supporting Messaging Chat Bubbles. Read more on these feature releases below:

Creating Custom Gamer Pics UI

Express yourself with custom Gamerpics, Club profile pics, and Club backgrounds
Starting this month, you’ll be able to upload an image from your console, Windows 10 PC, or mobile phone for your Gamerpic, or to customize your club’s profile pic or background. It’ll be available for everyone to see, so keep it clean – stick to the Xbox Live Code of Conduct.

Mixer Co-streaming on Xbox One UI

Co-streaming comes to your Xbox One console, Mixer tab in Clubs
Co-streaming arrives on Xbox One! With co-streaming, you and up to three of your friends can broadcast together to create a shared, multi-view experience on Mixer. With co-streaming now on the console, you can invite others to co-stream and join a co-stream – entirely from your Xbox One. To invite another user to a co-stream, simply select ‘Invite to co-stream’ from their profile, or choose to invite your entire party to a co-stream. To accept, simply hold the Xbox button when you see the invite notification. At this point, if you’re not already broadcasting, simply pull up the broadcasting tab in the Guide while playing a game and select ‘Co-stream your game’ to start.

Speaking of streaming, it’s now easier to discover live broadcasts from Club members. From your Club home page, you will now see a ‘Mixer’ tab. Navigate there to get a list of any Club members actively broadcasting on Mixer.

Sign in seamlessly with your controller
Are there multiple people using your Xbox with multiple controllers? You can now link a specific controller to an Xbox profile for easy, automatic sign-in. Once linked, we’ll sign-in to your Xbox with that profile when that controller turns on, and you’ll be ready to play. Along with Xbox Design Lab and button mapping, this is another great way to personalize your controller. To enable this new sign-in feature, you must be using the specific controller you’d like to link and be signed in to the profile you would like to link. From there, go to Settings, choose “Sign-in, security & passkey” and select “This controller signs in.” Choose “Link controller” and your controller and profile are now linked.

Arena on Xbox Live Tournament Chart

More updates released for Arena
With new user-generated tournaments for Killer Instinct on Xbox One, it’s never been easier to compete with friends. First, go to the Club you’d like to create an Arena tournament for, and select the Tournaments tab. Select ‘Create Tournament’ and choose your game. From here, it’s the same as it was on the Xbox app: Give it a name, determine the rules, start time, and a description if you’d like. You are now ready to host your Arena Tournament fully from your console!

This month’s update also makes it easier to see who is competing – and winning – in Arena. For active matches, you can see who is streaming, and with a button click you can launch Mixer to watch. Simply navigate to the ‘Bracket’ tab in any active or completed tournament to start. Or, see all users currently streaming from the tournament by going to the ‘Watch’ tab in the tournament page.

Club Tournaments for Arena on Xbox Live

Xbox App on iOS and Android updates
Looking-for-Group requests are getting more exposure in this release with the ability to share them to the Activity Feed and Messages. Create an LFG from a game hub, and once it’s submitted you can select it and tap “Share this post”. You can share it to the Activity Feed for broad distribution or to a specific group of friends though Messages.

With this update, Xbox Game Pass subscribers can now browse the titles in their subscription through the Xbox app. If you have an Xbox Game Pass subscription, go to the drawer and select “Store”, then swipe over to the “Xbox Game Pass” pivot and you can see the list of featured Game Pass titles or use the provided filters to find a game you are interested in. When you find titles you’re interested in, you can also install these games to your console directly from the app.

For our customers who set their phones to a different region or locale than their Xbox account, you can now easily set the app and store experience to match your Xbox and purchase content from the store in your console’s region. To access this feature, open the drawer and select “Settings”. In the Settings section, choose the “Language” tab at the top. From there you can make your desired selections.

The Xbox app on Android is getting a bonus feature this month with Chat Bubbles. This overlay experience lets you use your mobile games and apps while keeping your Xbox conversations within reach. When you get a new message, a chat bubble will open automatically for that conversation – this works for messages as well as club chat. You can also open this view by navigating to the conversation menu options. Chat bubbles are on by default, but if you would like to turn it off, you can choose “Settings” from the drawer, select the “Notifications” tab at the top, and disable the setting for “Chat Bubbles”.

The Xbox team is excited to continue implementing your feedback to further improve gaming on Xbox, so be sure to let us know what you think about the latest update on Xbox Feedback and stay tuned for more.

Xbox at gamescom 2017

Here at Xbox, we’re still buzzing from our fans’ reaction to our news at E3 – from the unveiling of the Xbox One X to the 42 games shown on our stage. But we’re only just getting started. Today, we’re happy to announce that in August we’re coming to Cologne, Germany for gamescom 2017. This will be the first time Xbox One X will be on the ground in Europe and we’ll have a huge line up of 27 playable games for the Xbox One family of devices and Windows 10 PC from developers around the world, including Forza Motorsport 7, Age of Empires: Definitive Edition and Sea of Thieves.

Here’s a rundown of what we’ll be up to throughout the week:

Xbox @ gamescom Live
Tune in on Sunday, August 20, at 9:00pm CEST, 12:00pm PDT to a special Xbox @ gamescom live show to get latest news and announcements on Xbox One X.

The show will be hosted by Graeme Boyd (aka @AceyBongos) and Xbox Germany’s Maxi Graeff (@GMaxee). They’ll have news to share, games to show off, will sit down to talk with developers from fan favorite studios and play some of the year’s hottest games yet to be released. There will even be a few surprises and giveaways along the way, so be sure to tune in on or watch via the Mixer app.

Age of Empires @ gamescom Live
On Monday, August 21, starting at 9:00pm CEST, 12:00pm PDT, Microsoft will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Age of Empires franchise with a special livestream event in Cologne, alongside some of our biggest fans. The livestream will celebrate the rich history of the beloved PC game series, as well as give fans a first-look at Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, the beautifully remastered edition of this bona fide classic we announced at E3 last month. We’ll be talking all things Age of Empires with some of the legendary developers who worked on the games as well as sharing some exciting news that fans will not want to miss – watch on or through the Mixer app.

We’ll share more details on how you can attend in person very soon.

Xbox FanFest @ gamescom
We will again be hosting an Xbox FanFest experience for our fans who are attending gamescom 2017. FanFest will begin on Tuesday, August 22nd. We will be sharing more details on our plans soon and look forward to seeing you there!

Xbox Booth @ gamescom
When gamescom officially opens at the Koelnmesse on Tuesday, August 22, gamers in Germany will be able to get hands on Xbox One X for the first time at the Xbox booth. We’re back in Hall 8 of the Koelnmesse, North entrance, this year and you won’t want to miss the opportunity to play a wide collection of the games coming to Xbox over the next 12 months. See below for the show opening times:

• Tuesday, August 22 – 9:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m. CEST (press/trade only day)

Deathstorm Comes to an End in Sniper Elite 4 on July 18

In his hunt to uncover the secret Nazi nuclear project Deathstorm, agent Karl Fairburne must neutralize a Kriegsmarine facility and infiltrate a fascist stronghold in Deathstorm Part 3: Obliteration, the conclusion of our three-part Sniper Elite 4 adventure that takes place after the main campaign.

In this chapter, we’re bringing Karl back to Germany for the first time since Sniper Elite V2. In the sleepy Bavarian town of Steigerloch, intelligence suggests a heavily guarded underground complex lies hidden from sight — the nuclear project Deathstorm is being researched at that facility. The war and society as we know it rests on this mission; Karl must bring down Deathstorm, once and for all.

Sniper Elite 4 Screenshot

Obliteration is a suitably epic finale to the Deathstorm campaign and we can’t wait for you to play it on July 18. To make things a bit sweeter, if you purchase Deathstorm you’ll also unlock six new Axis characters to use in multiplayer. We’ll also be releasing the Lock and Load expansion pack for those of you looking for more firepower, featuring the SVT, M30 Drilling, and Mauser M712 firearms. There will also be oodles of other stuff on the same day that will be free!

For those looking for a new challenge, the Authentic Plus difficulty will have what you need. With fewer display aids and relentless enemies, you’ll have to work very hard to unlock the two additional achievements tied to it.

Sniper Elite 4 Screenshot

We’re also introducing two new multiplayer maps. The Facility map for Survival, inspired by the Magazzeno Facility mission from the main campaign, and the Bunker map for adversarial multiplayer, which draws from the Allegra Fortress campaign mission. That takes us up to seven free maps and two free multiplayer modes that we’ve added since launch. If you’ve not yet checked out Elimination and Capture the Flag, now would be a great time to!

And for the hardcore multiplayer fans among you, we’ll also be introducing Elite ranks to Sniper Elite 4, which means we’re effectively raising the level cap from 50 to 250. There are of course all the tweaks and adjustments we’ve made since launch (you can find more about them here). In our upcoming update, we’ve got one of these that we know a lot of you have been asking for: we’re introducing the option to choose your rifle’s scope reticule.

Sniper Elite 4 Screenshot

Thanks to the Xbox One’s firepower we upped the ante with Sniper Elite 4. We’ve loved seeing you be creative with your sniping and stealth in our massive Italian maps, and like many of you, we think we’ve made the best Sniper Elite yet. Thank you so much for your support this year — it makes our jobs a real pleasure.

Pre-order Star Wars Battlefront II and Play the Beta Starting October 4

Dust off your blaster rifle and polish your clone trooper armor for the Star Wars Battlefront II beta starting October 4 on Xbox One. Earlier this week, EA announced specific details about the upcoming beta and when players who have pre-ordered the highly anticipated Star Wars game will have an exclusive opportunity to jump into the fray.

For this beta, the royal palace in the city of Theed — located on the planet of Naboo for the keen Star Wars observer — will be your battleground in the Galactic Assault mode as either the Republic clone troopers or Separatist droid army. You can also take the stars in the new Starfighter Assault game mode as you strap in and fly some of the most iconic ships in the Star Wars universe.

Star Wars Battlefront II is the next entry in the classic series that puts you on the ground or in space in the Star Wars universe in epic online multiplayer battles. In addition to a fully-fledged single-player cinematic campaign, Star Wars Battlefront II will be one of the biggest games of the year for Xbox One.

The beta will run until October 9, but to give yourself the most playing time you can pre-order Star Wars Battlefront II on Xbox One today to ensure you can start playing in the beta on October 4.

Star Wars Battlefront II will come to the Xbox One family of devices, including Xbox One X, on November 17. Plus, with EA Access exclusively on Xbox, you will be able to experience the action even earlier with the Play First Trial on November 9. For more details on Star Wars Battlefront II and Xbox One X, keep it tuned to Xbox Wire.

Discover What Remains of Edith Finch on Xbox One July 19

What Remains of Edith Finch is a collection of playable short stories about a cursed family in Washington State. You play as Edith, who tries to figure out why she is the last one in her family alive upon coming back to the house she grew up in. As you explore the house, you’ll find stories about each family member with its own unique gameplay and each ending with the death of that family member.

What Remains of Edith Finch Screenshot

It’s a game that touches on a lot of subjects: death, family, stories and what we leave behind, but more than anything it’s a game about the unknown, about exploring something with no idea of what you’re going to find. This makes the game a little hard to describe because the more I tell you about it, the less it’s going to surprise you.

What Remains of Edith Finch Screenshot

So what else can I say that won’t spoil it? Eventually, everybody dies in it. Just like in real life. It sounds a little sad but it’s not meant to be — the focus is on celebrating a crazy, larger than life family and getting the chance to see the world from some strange new perspectives.

What Remains of Edith Finch Screenshot

The only other thing I’ll say about What Remains of Edith Finch is this: it’s a game unlike anything you’ve ever played before. If that sounds appealing, I think you’re going to like this game a lot.

What Remains of Edith Finch comes to Xbox One on July 19.

PS4’s Gran Turismo Sport Release Date Revealed

Gran Turismo Sport–the first game in the series on PS4–is coming out on October 17 (October 18 in Europe and Australia), publisher Sony has announced. The company revealed the news in a new EU trailer, which you can watch above.

Sony had previously said the racing title would launch this fall, but this is the first time we’ve had a concrete date since its delay from 2016. Today’s announcement follows the completion of the long-running closed beta, which finished earlier this week. That’s not the last you’ll see of it before launch, however; Sony says a full reveal of the cars and tracks included is coming soon.

We played the latest iteration of Gran Turismo Sport at E3 2017, and you can check out our early impressions here. Elsewhere at the event, Sony confirmed GT Sport will run at 4K and 60 FPS on PS4 Pro, which will also get HDR support.

The racer is exclusive to PS4 and is being developed to support PlayStation VR, though it will not feature dynamic time or weather. The decision to drop these two features, which were key to the series, was made “in order to raise the frame rate and the quality of the image.” Players will still be able to set time and weather before the start of a race.

Gran Turismo Sport is the first in the popular series since 2013’s Gran Turismo 6, which was a PlayStation 3 exclusive. In our review, critic Joseph Barron said the racer possessed a “lack of vision” but that it “remains a fantastic simulation.” For more, check out our full Gran Turismo 6 review.
