What We Learned From Emily Blunt About Embracing Her Role as Mary Poppins

If you couldn’t already tell, visiting the set of Mary Poppins Returns was one of our favorite things that we got to do last year. From meeting Lin-Manuel Miranda (who plays Jack) to chatting with production designer John Myhre, it was one of those experiences that you don’t stop dreaming about (and rightfully so). Well, grab your umbrellas because we’re about to bring more magic into your life by unveiling what we learned from Emily Blunt (AKA Mary Poppins) about her exciting role in the film! Here are five things we found out:

  1. She grew up watching the original film. Like many of us, Emily Blunt is no stranger to the original Mary Poppins. As a child, she found Mary Poppins to be a memorable character that she continued to love as she grew older. “I think the film is one of those films that’s seared into people’s memories as an emblem of their nostalgia in many ways. I remember it very fondly and took great comfort in it as a child. Something struck me about [Mary Poppins] coming in, so capable and so magical, and just sweeping it all up and making it right,” Blunt describes. We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!
  2. She went into the role with the mindset of approaching Mary Poppins as she would any other character.mary poppins returnsMary Poppins is a character that has always been perceived as nothing short of wonderful by so many people. This well-known sentiment was even something Mary Poppins Returns hair and make-up artist Peter Swords King kept in mind when creating Mary’s look: “We have to remember she’s practically perfect in every way so her hair is very stylized and it doesn’t move a lot because she’s Mary Poppins. We’ve chosen a style that’s very practical. You try to keep Mary Poppins iconic, you know, she is Mary Poppins.”
Stepping into a role as iconic as Mary Poppins is exciting, but it doesn’t come without nerves. Blunt elaborated on how she went about diving into the role in Mary Poppins Returns: “I just try approach her as I would any other character. And not be caught up in the white noise of, ‘Oh my god, you’re Mary Poppins!’ I think that’s been my main focus, is just to approach her camly like any character. How would I play her with what I’m given on the page.”
  3. The dancing didn’t come easy, but director Rob Marshall makes you feel like you can do anything. mary poppins returnsThe film features musical numbers that not only include singing, but also dancing. Although dancing wasn’t something that came naturally to Blunt, director Rob Marshall helped her gain confidence. “He just has this way of making you feel like you can do anything. He’s got this wonderful ceremonious approach to filmmaking. He makes it magical and special for everybody. You do feel in such safe hands with him, and in the same way he approaches me as an actor, he approaches me as a dancer now. He just wants it to feel like a confident, exciting experience and he wants it to feel character-ful as opposed to perfect,” Blunt explains. Is it just us or does it sound like everyone needs a Rob Marshall in their life?
  4. She’s honored to be able to introduce new songs in the film.
Mary Poppins Returns is comprised of magical new scores and songs that bring the story to life. This is an aspect of the film that Blunt has expressed appreciation. She told us that “to be the person to birth some of these songs has been such a huge honor, really. You’ve got only songs that have been written for me and what my ability is. So in that way it’s felt like a collaborative experience and one that I was invited into.” How great is that?!
  5. Working with the cast has been inspiring.mary poppins returnsFrom all of the kids to Lin-Manuel Miranda, the movie cast that Blunt had the opportunity to work with were in her words, “remarkable.” She further elaborates: “Our kids are particularly brilliant and it’s been wonderful and quite moving to see them grow up in this experience and become quite pros. And Lin [Manuel Miranda] is just thrilling because I think he might be one of the most positive people I’ve ever met, and nothing is a step too far from him and that energy is quite infectious to be around.”

We can probably all agree that there’s just so much to love about Emily Blunt, especially as Mary Poppins. Don’t miss her and the rest of the Mary Poppins Returns cast when the film is in theaters on December 19!

If you’re sailing on the Disney Fantasy any time soon, you may notice that something is different. In fact, with its display of marble, stone and a Murano crystal chandelier that echoes the grandeur of its Italian heritage, it will be hard to miss!

Bvlgari on the Disney Fantasy

Disney Cruise Line introduced a new boutique to its merchandise lineup over the weekend, as Bvlgari opened for the first time on the Disney Fantasy. This Italian brand known for its contemporary jewelry, colored gemstones and unique craftmanship joins Tiffany & Co. as luxury shopping experiences that await guests boarding the Disney Fantasy.

The new Bvlgari boutique will feature an array of jewelry, watches, silks and leather goods, with items from the brand’s most iconic collections, such as Serpenti, Divas’ Dream, Lvcea and OCTO. Moms Panel Monday: Tips for Making the Most of the Holidays at the Disneyland Resort with Preschoolers

Lights are twinkling, “snow” is falling and reindeer can even be spotted dancing. This could mean only one thing—it’s time to celebrate the most magical time of the year at the Disneyland Resort. The entire family will enjoy the festive decorations, amazing food and holiday cheer that can be found at Disneyland park and Disney California Adventure park. And if this is your little one’s first trip to the Disneyland Resort during this most holiday season, they are in for a special experience!

To help little ones make the most of the merry magic that awaits them, members of the Disney Parks Moms Panel are here to share some of their favorite tips for enjoying the Disneyland Resort with your preschooler.

For Disney Parks Moms Panelist Linda, she loves nothing more than making magical memories with her family during the merriest of seasons. And one of her first tips? Taking a trip to see Santa Claus at the Redwood Creek Challenge Trail area in Disney California Adventure park.

“If your preschooler has been good all year long, then definitely stop in to meet Santa so he/she can relay their holiday wish list to the jolly old man himself. He is available to meet guests until Christmas Eve, and then Santa Goofy will take over greeting guests through the end of the holidays on January 8.” There is nothing like seeing the magic of your preschooler meeting Santa for the first time!

“Another perfectly merry thing to do with your preschooler is watch “A Christmas Fantasy” parade as it marches down Main Street, U.S.A. in Disneyland park,” she recommends. “To make the day even more special and to secure your viewing spot ahead of time, book a Plaza Inn Dining Package!” The magic continues later on Main Street, U.S.A., as falling “snow” transforms the well-known street to a winter wonderland. For many little ones, this might be their very first glimpse at snow!

Fellow panelist Jennifer L., and mom of a preschooler, loves this magical season too and especially enjoys watching “Believe … in Holiday Magic” fireworks spectacular with her little one. She also never misses a chance for her son to enjoy “it’s a small world” Holiday.

“One of the most iconic symbols of the season at the Disneyland Resort is the façade of “it’s a small world” Holiday with its thousands of dazzling lights. Little ones (and grown-ups!) will be amazed by this impressive light-up display,” Jennifer exclaims. “Inside you can see the classic attraction completely transformed with familiar music and adorable presentations of the holidays celebrated throughout the world. Since this is one of the most popular holiday offerings, I recommend grabbing a Disney FASTPASS so you can spend more time enjoying the festivities throughout the parks rather than waiting in line.”

Our panelists also remind Guest to take time to enjoy the splendor of the holiday décor that can be found throughout the resort, including the twinkling lights of Sleeping Beauty’s Winter Castle. And let’s not forget the festive feasting that only takes place this time of year… even little ones love tasty treats! “Many of the festive goodies this year are almost too cute to eat!” explains Jennifer. “We can’t wait to try the adorable Santa Hat Macaron and Holiday Brownie topped with chocolate presents and a gingerbread Christmas tree at Jolly Holiday Bakery Cafe.”

For more information about traveling to Disneyland Resort with your preschooler, or planning your next Disney vacation, visit for a personalized answer from one of our knowledgeable panelists.

Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill is Now Open at Disney Springs

Add another award-winning, celebrity chef-driven restaurant to the Disney Springs line-up! The highly anticipated new venue from celebrated chef Wolfgang Puck, Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill, is now open in Town Center. Located next to the Coca-Cola Store and easily accessible from the Orange Garage and the Disney Springs Bus Loop, it’s the fourth “Bar & Grill” location from Puck.

Featuring approachable dining with a touch of California elegance, Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill offers a dynamic setting inspired by traditional farmhouses and showcases a menu designed to suit every occasion – from casual, leisurely meals to lavish, celebratory gatherings.

Last week, I got a sneak-peek of the menu and I love the mix of options. Expect to find familiar signature dishes like the classic pizzas Puck is known for alongside some new additions. The Olive Oil Seared Red Snapper with mussels, clams and fennel is a noteworthy standout, but truly, everything sounds delicious! (Tip: Make sure you save room; the homemade gelato and desserts are the perfect ending to the perfect meal.)

In the coming weeks, my fellow Disney Parks Blog author Alex Dunlap will share more details on the menu (with photos!) so stay tuned. In the meantime, learn more and book an upcoming reservation for yourself here.
